An agreement for the next window

Colton Swan’s next destination is set, but his Charleston chapter has a defined final stretch. On August 23, the Battery announced an agreement to transfer the 19-year-old forward to Scottish Premiership club Hibernian after Charleston’s 2026 season and playoffs, with his departure planned for January’s transfer window.

Charleston said the deal includes a six-figure fee and a sell-on clause. At the announcement, Swan had scored 11 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions, with two assists. Those figures describe his record on August 23, rather than a current season total.

During his 2025 freshman season at Indiana, Swan appeared in all 19 matches, started 11 and produced three goals and three assists. He also earned Big Ten All-Freshman recognition. Charleston announced his first professional contract on January 7, 2026. By late August, the club had agreed his next move overseas.

AthleMix analysis: college as one chapter

Swan’s progression is a useful example of college and professional development fitting into the same career. One season at Indiana became part of a broader route rather than the whole story.

The timing also matters: the announced agreement allows him to finish Charleston’s campaign before changing environments. For players assessing their own options, that makes the practical questions especially relevant: where will the competitive minutes come from, what role is available and when does the next transition make sense?
