A loan becomes a lasting role

Chris Hegardt arrived at Orange County SC on loan from Stabæk in the middle of 2024. By January 2025, the move was permanent. His first full league season brought three goals and eight assists, including a three-assist performance against New Mexico United. A temporary stop had become a place where his contribution could accumulate.

That continuity matters in a career that has crossed several environments: Seattle’s academy and Tacoma, Georgetown, Charlotte, loan spells and Norway. Orange County gives the San Diego midfielder a longer stretch of evidence to examine, beyond the brief introductions that accompany another move.

Look one pass before the finish

The club’s 2026 statistics snapshot, retrieved September 30, has Hegardt on three goals, five assists and 34 key passes in 2,011 minutes. Those key passes amount to roughly 1.5 per 90 minutes. They broaden the picture beyond assists by counting passes that produce a shot even when the finish does not become a goal.

His 87.3% passing accuracy and 51 fouls won add two different ways to read his involvement. The completion rate describes retention across the passes he attempted. The fouls, about 2.3 per 90, show repeated moments when opponents stopped him illegally. Their value depends on location, but they can interrupt pressure and create another attacking restart.

The next pass is the story

With 23 starts in 26 appearances in that snapshot, Hegardt has been a regular selection. Comparing his five assists directly with last season’s eight would skip over the different amounts of football represented. A better viewing guide is to follow the chances themselves: where he receives, how quickly he releases the ball and whether the next player can attack. His numbers make that a worthwhile place to watch.
